The Work of God

Jesus answered and said unto them, "This is the work of God - that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." (John 6:29 KJV)
Jesus answered and said unto them, "This is the work of God - that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." (John 6:29 KJV)
Once we are captured by the love of God, we let go of all that hinders and let God do His work.
We stop trying to dictate the terms of our salvation, and just rest in Jesus, lost sinners though we were before we knew Him.
Love has no problem with the work of God plus nothing. It allows God to be everything and do everything.
It trusts Christ explicitly without reservation, and without condition. In a nutshell, it bows the heart and sacrifices the will in holy surrender to the will of God. In this way, we are saved through the power of the gospel, not ourselves. "Salvation is of the Lord" spoke the prophet Jonah. (Jonah 2:9b)
Man tends to take pride in the exercise of the will, but it can be a faulty fixation.
God is not beholden to save us on the grounds that we overcame our resistance to him through the power of the will.
God saves the powerless.
"For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly." (Romans 5:6)
What we can do is surrender; Jesus Christ being the supreme example when he surrendered his will to the cross.
At the cross we lay down our willfulness and come to know him personally - and this is accomplished by grace through faith.
