Levin: ‘Greatest Participant in Undermining Our National Security Are the Media’
On his nationally syndicated radio talk show Friday, host Mark Levin decried the media, saying they are the “greatest participant in undermining our national security.”
“Now, the greatest, the greatest participant in undermining our national security are the media,” Mark Levin said.
“There’s nothing in the First Amendment free press that compel the media to run with stories fed to them by felons in the federal government,” Levin commented later.
Levin was commenting on Attorney General Jeff Session’s call for government officials and the media to stop leaking classified national security information.
Below is part of the transcript from Levin’s show Friday, Aug 4:
“Now, the greatest, the greatest participant in undermining our national security are the media. Now, they’ll run around and say we have a right to do this and— [inaudible].“Excuse me, we’re not talking about rights. We’re not talking about free speech. There’s nothing in the Constitution. Let me help out. There’s nothing in the First Amendment about freedom of the press that compels the media to undermine the country.“There’s nothing in the First Amendment free press that compel the media to run with stories fed to them by felons in the federal government. They’re not compelled to do any of this – none of it.“By leaking a transcript of the president’s discussion, for example, with the President of Mexico in order to try and embarrass him, that does enormous damage to our national security, making it incredibly difficult for our President to conduct foreign policy from the Oval Office.“He’s under assault by felons within the federal government.
“There’s no reason the media should use those transcripts and republish them in their pages. There’s no great news story there, other than trying to embarrass the president, and even worse, undermine our national security, the ability of the president to conduct foreign policy.“There’s no justification whatsoever. There’s no evidence of a crime there. There’s no evidence of a sellout there – none of it.“And conversely, as we discussed the first hour, The Washington Post – the very same Washington Post that’s been publishing these transcripts – refused to pursue Loretta Lynch and Clinton, not only refused to pursue it, stated affirmatively that they’re going to kill it. New York Times, ABC News, same exact thing – same exact thing.“Is this what the Founders of the country meant? Is this what the Framers meant by the First Amendment?“Of course, not.”
