Jesus the Only Way
by Susan Barnes
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by me." John 14:6 NIV
I had the opportunity of hearing a missionary from Nepal speak and she related the conversation she had with one of the local Muslims. He suggested to her that there wasn't much difference between their faiths.
She responded by saying she felt there were two major differences. "First I don't have to work to obtain salvation, and second the founder of Christianity is still alive."
People often want to put Christianity in a box next to all the other religions of the world, but our faith is unique in its claims about God.
Our relationship with God is not based on what we have done, or even by what we continue to do, but rather on what God has done for us in sending Jesus to take the penalty of our sins.
Our faith is also unique in that we claim God visited our world in human form. Jesus died, but he rose from the dead, which means we can have a personal, ongoing relationship with the founder of our faith.
It is interesting to investigate other religions to realize how privileged we are as Christians to believe in a God who has undertaken so much on our behalf.
We don't need to live in fear of not having done enough; rather we rejoice in knowing that Jesus is alive. He is indeed the truth, the life, and the only way to God.
