April 12, 2017 Family Research Council Reverse Obama's Assault on Religious Freedom The religious freedom and influence of biblical Christianity in America is still at stake. Former President Obama initiated efforts across many powerful federal department regulations specifically promoting a dangerous agenda revolving around transgender showers, locker rooms, and bathrooms, which directly undermines religious freedom.  Citizens and federal workers who violated these rules faced legal action by the federal government. Through his Cabinet-level agencies, President Obama unleashed an unprecedented attack on Christian values, in fact on America's entire social order. Obama administration regulations still crisscross our government and our lives, forcing conservative Christians to violate our biblical values-or face dire consequences. Citizens like you who opposed the Obama regulations were noisily labeled as haters, prudes, homophobes, bigots, ignorant-or, as Hillary Clinton described many who uphold conservative values, "a basket of deplorables." Of course as you know, various states sued the federal government to stop the most horrific policies-like the school shower mandate-from being inflicted on their own children and families. The Trump administration honorably withdrew this regulation. But in the meantime, you and I need to reckon with some bad news:  Many of the Obama administration's "gender identity" regulations are still in place. We are living with the lingering side effects of Barack Obama's longstanding hostility toward the Christian faith. This left parents to send their children to the Y for swimming lessons and other programs without knowing that they might be targeted by those seeking to take advantage of the "open" shower policy. As Kaeley's tragic situation demonstrates: "Gender identity" is not simply a matter of privacy; it is a matter of safety and security. It is also a matter of biblical truth. Jesus affirmed in Matthew 19 that human beings are created male and female. To attack the idea that there are two genders is to undermine children's understanding of the real world as God created it-and unleash biblical hostility and cultural chaos.
