I Can... I Am
John Hamilton
Being blessed with an opportunity is an awesome event. Be it a promotion, new job or a desired relationship, it comes with a bundle of emotions.
The joy and excitement of the possibilities move to the reality of the change. The wonder of new rules and responsibilities that come with the change give way to What-if and then Can-I?
When we are not in alignment with God, these negative thoughts and fears have merit. This can weigh heavily on us. The more we focus on this thinking, convince ourselves that we can do this, and reassure ourselves with a list of things we have accomplished in our names, we are in fact empowering and strengthening the very doubts and fears we are attempting to subdue.
Our alignment with God is simple. By changing our beliefs to "I can because I am trusting in the mighty I Am." we become capable. It's that simple.
At the burning bush, God spoke to Moses and said, "I Am who I Am. This is what you are to tell the Israelites: I Am has sent me to you" Exodus 3:14 (NIV). This establishes the truth in our hearts that He is the one and only true God.
When we are in true alignment with God, we are reminded to "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with gratitude, make your requests known to God" Philippians 4:6 (NIV).
We are instructed to focus on good things and to offer up the rest to Him. "I can do all this through him who strengthens me" Philippians 4:13 (NIV). Trust in I Am, and you shall find that you can!
