Says teen's actions brought 'dishonor' to family

A 51-year-old German man strangled his 19-year-old daughter in an “honor killing” after she was caught stealing condoms.

He was angry that she had resisted attempts to enter into an arranged marriage and was sexually active with her boyfriend.

Asadullah Khan confessed to the Jan. 28, 2015, murder of Lareeb Khan in a Darmstadt, Germany, courtroom Sept. 25, the German paper Bild reported.

Khan was an immigrant from Pakistan who came to Germany with his 41-year-old wife, Shazia. Both Muslim parents are charged with the teenager’s killing since the mother allegedly watched the strangulation and then participated in the disposal of the body.

“If I could do it undone, I would. My wife must obey me. I love my wife and my daughters,” Asadullah said in a statement to the court, Bild reported. He said his daughter’s actions brought “dishonor” to the family name.

The parents are accused of dressing up the dead child, putting her body in a wheelchair, and then pushing it into a Darmstadt ravine on the night of the murder.

Lareeb’s body was found the next morning by passers-by.

“My mother was not suppressed, she could do what she wanted. She used to hit me with a stick,” the victim’s 14-year-old sister, Nida, told the courtroom last Friday, Breitbart London reported.

Tempers flared between Khan and his daughter, a dental technician at the time of her killing, because she was dating a taxi driver who did not meet his approval. Khan murdered his daughter the night he found out she was caught stealing condoms from a store.

“Lareeb stayed away from the home for several nights in a row and stopped wearing the headscarf,” Shazia said in a statement to the court, the Mirror reported Monday. “One day we received a letter from the police saying she had been caught trying to steal condoms. At this point it became clear that there was sexual contact. When I showed the letter to my husband he snapped.”

Nida was sent to stay at a relative’s house prior to the murder.

“We were never allowed to talk about her boyfriend,” Nida told the court. “My father used to say my sister should be forcibly married in Pakistan.”

The trial is ongoing.
