Oklahoma And Indiana Push Back Against Common Core

Grassfire Update:

Growing cracks are appearing in the "dam" of Common Core. Grassfire received word on Tuesday that lawmakers in two states -- Oklahoma and Indiana -- have clearly and undeniably pushed back against Obama's federal takeover of education.

In the Sooner State, KRMG radio in Tulsa reports that state lawmakers have overwhelmingly rejected Common Core:

"The Oklahoma Senate Education Committee has joined a House Committee in voting to withdraw Oklahoma from the Common Core educational standards.

The committee voted Monday 11-0 to scrap the Common Core in favor of identifying and implementing Oklahoma's own educational standards."

According to FOX News, the vote would "effectively halt the use of Common Core" in Oklahoma.

FOX News also reported Tuesday that Indiana has become the first of 45 states to opt out of Common Core due to costs imposed by the curriculum and over fears that setting a "national education standard" will become an "increasingly polarizing issue."

The Hoosier State's Republican governor Mike Pence signed legislation on Monday to make it official. One expert quoted by FOX News says Indiana's decision could "open the floodgates" for other states to follow.
